Richard Linklitter’s Cathood changes the way the Internet sees coming-of-age kitten videos

When Richard Linklitter and Pet Collective cast a 6-day-old kitten, then filmed his coming of age over the 12 crucial weeks of growing into semi-adulthood, they changed the way the Internet would see cat videos forever. They could have cast similar-looking kittens to show the main kittens growing up, or used makeup to age Patricia Ourcat and Eatin Hawk. But Linklitter saw something in Collar Catrane, whose eyes were barely open when filming began, and whose curiosity blossomed before the camera in those three crucial months of cognitive development. It’s not purrfect, but Cathood is an astonishing accomplishment.
