Rick Astley hopes his new beer will never let you down

“Never Gonna Give You Up” singer Rick Astley is set to launch his own beer, echoing a career trajectory also shared by other brew-minded artists like Hanson, Hootie and the Blowfish, and Iron Maiden. The 50-year-old musician/meme says he enjoys “a beer with friends,” and is collaborating on his first beer with Mikkiller, a Danish brewery founded in 2006 that plies its sudsy wares to more than 40 countries. After tasting a variety of the brewery’s “quite experimental” concoctions, Astley has settled on a “fruity pilsner lager.” It’s an inspired choice, as Astley’s music is best described as tart, smooth, and a just a little bit dirty. “All I need now is a name for it,” he told Weekend magazine, no doubt with a wry, knowing smile. “Rickrolling” will never be the same.
