In a stunning rejection of the usual behavior we know from him, Ricky Gervais is set to star in a new Netflix series where he plays a big asshole who says and does whatever he wants. That comes from Variety, which says the show is called After Life and that Gervais’ character will be a man who considers killing himself after the death of his wife but instead decides to “punish the world” by telling everyone what he really thinks of them. Unfortunately, his quest will be hampered somewhat by the fact that his friends still really care about him and try to make him feel better even though he’s a big asshole to all of them.
The series was created by Gervais, obviously, because being really mean to everybody while still being universally beloved is like his ultimate dream. Netflix has ordered six episodes, but the Variety story doesn’t say when they might premiere.
