Ricky Gervais is a liar, will host the Golden Globes for a fourth time
Is Ricky Gervais the Devil? Sure, he doesn’t believe in God, which would mean that, by extension, he doesn’t believe in the Devil either. But the Devil is a known liar, and Gervais is one too, having said after his controversial 2011 Golden Globes hosting gig that he would never host the awards ceremony again. Then Gervais hosted the awards a third time in 2012, directly contradicting his earlier statement. And now Deadline reports that Gervais will be hosting the Golden Globes for the fourth time in seven years come January 10, 2016, once again proving that you can’t trust a single offhand comment that comes out of the man’s mouth while he’s being followed by paparazzi.
NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt says in a statement quoted in Variety, “We’re excited to have Ricky Gervais back to host the most enjoyable [i.e. drunk] awards show of the season in his own inimitable way … Disarming and surprising, Ricky is ready to honor—and send up—the best work of the year in film and television. Fasten your seat belts.” Clearly, Gervais is holding Greenblatt’s immortal soul hostage in an amulet or a paperweight or something in exchange for another hosting gig. Either that, or Gervais is a mere mortal who knows that, now that The Office is in syndication, it really doesn’t matter what Hollywood thinks of him anymore.
