Ricky Gervais may star in the next Muppets movie, as the human

Ricky Gervais' cameo in last year's The Muppets ultimately ended up getting cut, but this might actually end up working in his favor: The Hollywood Reporter now says that Gervais is in talks to appear again in the upcoming Muppets sequel, this time taking on a much larger role that's roughly the equivalent of Jason Segel's from the first film, minus the universal likability. The specific nature of whom Gervais will be is still a secret, though contextual clues—like the casting of Ty Burrell (taking over for Christoph Waltz) as a "lazy Interpol agent," and the fact that James Bobin has said it will be a European-set "caper," just like the original Muppets sequel—certainly suggest that Gervais' natural Britishness will come into play. As of press time, the moderator of the Ricky Gervais Muppet Wiki page was still hovering over the "Edit" button, sensing that their big moment is nigh.
