Ridley Scott and Nat Geo adapting Bill O’Reilly’s Killing Reagan for TV
It’s morning again in America, which is to say that there are still several dozen people running for president so we’re going to be hearing a lot about Ronald Reagan over the next 13 months or so. We’re as happy about that as a rich white CEO who doesn’t have to pay taxes, but it looks like Ridley Scott and the National Geographic Channel are even happier about the upcoming influx of Reagan: According to Variety, they’re teaming up to develop an adaptation of Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard’s book Killing Reagan for TV.
This will be a sequel (of sorts) to the network’s previous O’Reilly-and-other-guy adaptations, Killing Lincoln, Killing Kennedy, and Killing Jesus, all of which were also produced by Scott’s Scott Free Productions. There’s an important distinction to make here, though, because nobody actually killed Ronald Reagan. John Hinckley Jr. tried—and his attempt will be the prime focus of this story—but Reagan’s impenetrable diamond-like skin and superhuman strength made killing him impossible. You might be thinking that this technicality makes his inclusion in this series a desperate ploy for attention from Reagan fanatics, but who are you to deny the world more books and TV dramas about Ronald Reagan? Some kind of commie?
Killing Reagan will premiere at some point next year. We have a hunch it will be before November, but we’re not sure where we’re getting that idea.
