Ridley Scott promises R rating for Alien: Covenant, or whatever it’s called these days

After winning a Golden Globe for the hilarious comedy The Martian last weekend, director Ridley Scott seized the opportunity to talk about his upcoming heartwarming film, Alien: Covenant, the movie formerly known as Alien: Paradise Lost, which is also the movie formerly known as Prometheus 2. Though it took him a while to finally land on a name, Scott is certain about one thing: the sequel to Prometheus will without a doubt have a “hard R” rating. That doesn’t come as much of a surprise, though, considering that Paul W.S. Anderson’s Alien Vs. Predator is the only Alien movie to stay at the PG-13 level:

Scott kept his lips sealed about specifics for Alien: Covenant, but he hinted that he wants to one-up himself by tackling something “much worse” than the famous chestburster scene from the original Alien movie, an image permanently burned in the brains of everyone who has seen it (although some little kids once made a cute version). Scott says he wants to maintain control of the Prometheus movies by directing all of them (sorry, Neill Blomkamp), and it’s reassuring to know that the only person trying to outdo Scott’s chestburster scene is Scott himself. If what he says is true and the Prometheus sequel will really be bloodier and chestburst-ier than the original Alien, Alien: Covenant might start giving people nightmares before it‘s even made.

Starring Katherine Waterston and Michael Fassbender, Alien: Covenant will be released in 2017, so there’s plenty of time for another name change.
