Ridley Scott says Alien 5 is dead
That Neill Blomkamp Alien movie everyone got so worked up over a couple of years ago probably won’t become a reality. ComingSoon picked up an interview Ridley Scott did French publication AlloCiné in which the Alien: Covenant director explained why Blomkamp’s project is just a pipe dream at this point. “There was never a script,” he said. “It was an idea that evolved from, I believe, a 10-page pitch, and I was meant to be part of the producers on that. It didn’t evolve. Fox decided that they didn’t want to do it and that was it. I’d already done Prometheus and I was planning Covenant so I dunno.” As for whether it will come to fruition, Scott doesn’t seem too convinced that’s a likely scenario: “I don’t think so, no.”
The fervor over Blomkamp’s take on the franchise came after he posted concept art on social media back in 2015. Though that was purportedly for a squandered project, it ultimately led to Fox once again getting on board with the idea. Now, however, Scott plans on popping out as many Alien movies as audiences want, and Blomkamp’s concept is getting left behind.
