Rihanna cast as Marion Crane on Bates Motel’s fifth—and final—season
This is shaping up to be the Year of Rihanna at Comic-Con. Yesterday, she impressed viewers like Vulture’s Kyle Buchanan in footage from Luc Besson’s upcoming Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets, and this afternoon it was announced at the Bates Motel panel that the singer-turned-actress will co-star in the upcoming fifth—and final, it was revealed today—season of A&E’s Bates Motel.
Rihanna has been cast as Marion Crane, the office worker on the run who’s stabbed to death in Psycho’s iconic shower scene. (Janet Leigh originated the role in Alfred Hitchcock’s 1960 film.) About the casting, executive producers Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehrin say in a press release, “We wanted to thrust the iconic role into a contemporary spotlight and redefine it in a meaningful and exciting new way. We also heard Rihanna was a fan of the show, and we were huge fans of hers, so it was the perfect collision of creativity and fate.”
