Riley Keough tests her limits in the new trailer for The Girlfriend Experience
Steven Soderbergh’s second attempt at capturing the line-blurring prostitution drama of The Girlfriend Experience—this time as a TV series on Starz, with Lodge Kerrigan and Amy Seimetz handling the major creative duties—is inching closer to its April 10 debut. To commemorate the upcoming release, Starz has put together a new trailer for the show, this time focusing heavily on star Riley Keough and her various deer-in-headlights facial expressions as she descends, ascends, or just kind of drifts her way into the world of companionship in exchange for cash.
Glossily shot, the trailer mostly consists of people asking Keough’s character, Christine—who flirts with answering to “Chelsea,” in a likely nod to Sasha Grey’s character from Soderbergh’s original film—whether she’s comfortable trading her time and attention for money, and then watching as she asserts that she is, with all the confidence of a Catholic schoolboy caught with his hand in the tithing plate. (Presumably, people in the series will just learn to stop asking her this stuff after a while—unless seeing attractive women stammer a bit and uncomfortably purse their lips is a turn-on, of course.)
