The great E Street Band keyboardist Danny Federici, who joined his friend and bandmate Bruce Springsteen on his greatest recordings, from Born To Run to last year's Magic, died yesterday. He was 58 years old. Federici battled melanoma for three years, and was recently hospitalized during the current Springsteen tour. His last performance with the band was March 20 in Indianapolis. On his website Springsteen said: "Danny and I worked together for 40 years – he was the most wonderfully fluid keyboard player and a pure natural musician. I loved him very much … we grew up together."
