RIP Suzanne Pleshette, Sam the butcher

Fans of classic TV have two deaths to mourn today. Suzanne Pleshette is best-known for playing Bob Newhart's husky-voiced wife on The Bob Newhart Show. (Also check out her supporting performance in The Birds. She was a stone fox in her day.) Pleshette died Saturday of respiratory failure at her L.A. home. She was 70. Also passing on to TV heaven is Allan Melvin, a well-traveled character actor best-known for playing Sam the butcher on The Brady Bunch. Melvin also played recurring roles on The Phil Silvers Show and All In The Family, and guest starred on The Andy Griffith Show, The Dick Van Dyke Show, and Gomer Pyle. He also was the voice of Bluto on Popeye. Melvin was 84.
