Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes’ Rupert Wyatt to direct Fox’s Exorcist pilot

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox has hired Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes’ Rupert Wyatt to direct the pilot of its Exorcist TV show. Wyatt also directed the pilot for AMC’s Turn and was attached to Channing Tatum’s Gambit movie until he dropped out in September, so it seems like he’s mostly committing to TV work these days. As for the Exorcist pilot, THR specifically says it’s a “modern reinvention” of William Peter Blatty’s 1971 book—so, specifically not the movie—but it still remains to be seen what that actually means. Also, the pilot was written by Fantastic Four’s Jeremy Slater, which we’re only bringing up because it’s important to say who is writing a TV show, not because Fantastic Four was a big flop.

There’s no word on when The Exorcist show might premiere (if it even goes to series), but hopefully it works out better than Fox’s recent Minority Report adaptation.
