Playing a real-life controversial figure worked out pretty great for Al Pacino and You Don’t Know Jack, so it’s perhaps no surprise to hear that Robert De Niro is considering moving in on similarly territory—specifically, producing and most likely starring in an HBO biopic about despised Ponzi scheme architect Bernie Madoff. The network has optioned the rights to the new The Wizard Of Lies: Bernie Madoff And The Death Of Trust and brought in De Niro’s Tribeca Productions to develop it, most likely with De Niro himself starring in his first-ever made-for-TV role as the living lightning rod for all of our economy-related frustrations. Unlike You Don’t Know Jack, we don’t expect this film to be too sympathetic.
