Robert Duvall joins Steve McQueen’s Widows

For a film that’s been billing itself as a female-led crime caper, Steve McQueen’s upcoming thriller Widows is going all-out when it comes to its male co-stars. Deadline reports that Robert Duvall has just joined the XY half of the heist movie’s cast, which also includes Liam Neeson, Colin Farrell, Daniel Kaluyaa, and Moonlights André Holland. They’ll star as the friends and husbands of Michelle Rodriguez, Viola Davis, and Elizabeth Debicki, who play a team of women who plan to carry out a robbery abandoned when their husbands are killed.

Gone Girls Gillian Flynn is writing the script, her first screenplay that’s not based off of one of her own books. McQueen will direct; Widows will be his first feature since 2013’s Best Picture winner 12 Years A Slave.
