Robert Pattinson to play astronaut in Claire Denis’ sci-fi movie

ScreenDaily reports Robert Pattinson has been cast as the lead in Claire Denis’ upcoming sci-fi movie. He’ll play an astronaut who’s out of this world—because he’s traveled outside of our solar system. Not much is known about the plot, but the movie will reportedly take place in “a future that seems like our present.” But because the project is based on an idea that Bastards director Denis had with her regular writing partner Jean-Pol Fargeau, we won’t have to worry about Pattinson sparkling in space.

Denis is helming the as-yet-untitled film, and will co-write the script with author Zadie Smith (White Teeth) and Smith’s husband Nick Laird. The project will be Denis’ first English language film, as well as her foray into sci-fi pictures. The film’s other collaborators come from diverse fields: Astrophysicist Aurélien Barrau and artist Olafur Eliasson will both be involved in some capacity, and Tindersticks’ Stuart Staples will write the score. Production on the film is expected to begin early next year.
