Roberts De Niro and Pattinson join forces for Olivier Assayas mob thriller
Robert De Niro’s “greatest actor of his generation” privileges were revoked a long time ago, and Robert Pattinson has spent the last few years shaking the sparkles out of his luscious hair by working with directors like Werner Herzog, Anton Corbijn, and James Gray. So there’s no use in bemoaning the fact that the star of Taxi Driver (and Grudge Match) is starring in a movie alongside the guy from Twilight (and two David Cronenberg movies). Instead, let’s celebrate the fact that the two have come together for a prestige project like Olivier Assayas’ mob action-thriller Idol’s Eye. Pattinson’s involvement in the film was announced last week at Cannes, where Assayas’ Clouds of Sils Maria is playing in competition; De Niro joined the cast yesterday in an as-yet-unannounced role. Idol’s Eye will film in Chicago and Toronto, with production set to begin in October.
