Robin Wright joins the Blade Runner sequel in a mystery role
It looks like Robin Wright is joining the cast of the upcoming Blade Runner sequel, according to Variety. Alcon Entertainment has reportedly been hoping to cast the 49-year-old actress in a currently unknown role for some time, but had until recently been unable to work around her hectic schedule on Netflix’s House of Cards. They apparently worked something out, and she’s now in final negotiations to play an android or a human or some sad and confusing middle ground between the two.
The sci-fi film, set several decades after the 2019 timeline of Ridley Scott’s 1982 original, will also feature Ryan Gosling in an unspecified capacity and Harrison Ford as replicant bounty hunter Rick Deckard, rounding out his trilogy of ’80s nostalgia roles (along with Star Wars: The Force Awakens and a planned fifth Indiana Jones film). Denis Villeneuve (Sicario) will be sitting in the director’s chair for this, since executive producer Scott is busy with his multitudinous Prometheus sequels. He’ll be working from a screenplay by Hampton Fancher (co-writer of the original) and Michael Green (co-writer of Green Lantern).
The as-yet-untitled film is scheduled to be released on January 12, 2018.
