RoboCop robodelayed to give its summer spot to Elysium

Sony has pushed the release of Neill Blomkamp's Matt Damon-starring Elysium from March 1, 2013 to August 9, 2013, enabling the anticipated film to be more "sleeper hit of the summer" than "first decent movie after a winter of burning garbage" material. Unfortunately, this show of faith for one sci-fi thriller suggests more bad news for another: The move means bumping the studio's remake of RoboCop all the way to February 7, 2014—and, with the film having endured a Peter Weller-being-gunned-down-in-slow-motion hail of negative buzz in recent months, as well as this photo of RoboCop on a RoboCycle, it's definitely tempting to read into that. But lest we forget, February 7 is right before Valentine's Day, and this new release date is ideally suited for robolovers.
