Rock The Bells announces lineup: Wu-Tang Clan, Rakim, KRS-One, Slick Rick play classic albums in full
Hip-hop’s annual summer summit Rock The Bells is taking a page from festivals like All Tomorrow’s Parties and Pitchfork this year, getting some legendary acts to run through their most famous albums front to back. Topping the bill is the Wu-Tang Clan, who will play its 1993 debut Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), Rakim (without Eric B.) doing 1987’s Paid In Full, KRS-One (without Boogie Down Productions) revisiting 1987’s Criminal Minded, and Slick Rick treating her like a prostitute all over again with 1988’s The Great Adventures Of Slick Rick. Touted as a “special guest” without further elaboration, Lauryn Hill is also said to be on the lineup, but there’s no indication what she’ll be doing on the tour, other than driving promoters crazy, probably. The rest of the bill includes Tom Morello and Boots Riley’s Street Sweeper Social Club, Clipse, Murs & 9th Wonder, Wiz Khalifa, Immortal Technique, Brother Ali, Jedi Mind Tricks, Supernatural, DJ Muggs with Ill Bill, Big Sean, Yelawolf, and DJ Rocky Rock. The tour hits four cities in all, beginning with an Aug. 21 date in San Bernardino, followed by San Francisco, New York, and Washington D.C.
