Rocket Raccoon

Who he is: Rocket, a.k.a. Rocket Raccoon, a.k.a. Subject: 89P13

His power: No superpowers, just a genetically and cybernetically modified being who’s also a crack shot and an ace pilot.

His story: As explained in Guardians Of The Galaxy, Rocket is a raccoonlike creature who was experimented on by scientists for years, leaving him in near-constant pain and emotionally mercurial. He became a mercenary and began regularly working with Groot, until they were imprisoned during a bounty capture of Peter Quill gone wrong on Nova. Rocket and Groot formed a tenuous alliance with Quill, Gamora, and Drax The Destroyer to deliver a mysterious orb to the Collector and split a reward. However, after Ronan The Accuser attacks them and claims the orb, Rocket reluctantly agrees to team up with the others—along with the Nova Corps and a band of thieves called the Ravagers, to which Quill used to belong—to recover the orb (revealed to contain a powerful infinity stone), kill Ronan, and prevent the destruction of Nova.

Rocket struggles with his new-found heroism in Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2, betraying the team’s client, Ayesha, to steal her precious Anulax Batteries for himself. After being berated by the team, and captured by the Ravagers, Rocket eventually redeems himself, working with his crew to blow up Ego The Living Planet. He’s last seen at the funeral of Yondu, shedding a tear over his fallen comrade, and his own lonely choices in life.

Currently, Rocket is: Journeying about space with the other Guardians, with an added dose of self-reflection along the way.

Where will we see him next? Avengers: Infinity War.
