Rogue One has at least one fan: George Lucas
Members of the press were recently treated to precisely 28 minutes of footage from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Well, George Lucas has seen the full thing, and his reaction was apparently positive. Now, we’re only hearing Lucas’ take secondhand from the spin-off’s director Gareth Edwards, and, presumably, it’s in Edwards’ best interest that Lucas is on board with the film. After all, Lucas created the universe in which Rogue One takes place. That being said, Edwards likely wouldn’t want to risk pissing anyone off by saying Lucas enjoyed the adventures of Jyn Erso and company when he actually hated them.
“Two days ago we got to show George the movie, and we all had a phone call and I got to speak with him yesterday, and I don’t want to put words into his mouth, but I can honestly say that I can die happy now,” Edwards said at a press conference. “He really liked the movie. It meant a lot.” Lucas previously “really liked” The Force Awakens, so that seems to be his go-to reaction for these new Star Wars films. We’ll get excited when he says he “loved” one. The general public will get to form their own opinions when the movie is released December 16.
