Rooney Mara and Jonah Hill join Gus Van Sant’s quadriplegic cartoonist movie
Variety reports that Rooney Mara and Jonah Hill have signed on for Gus Van Sant’s Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far On Foot, based on the autobiography of subversive quadriplegic cartoonist John Callahan. Mara and Hill join a cast that includes Van Sant’s old collaborator Joaquin Phoenix, to tell the life story of Callahan, a Portland, Oregon resident who turned to cartooning—often focused on making fun of sex, violence, and rampant human cruelty—after being badly injured in an auto accident in his early 20s.
Hill and Rooney both had fairly successful 2016s; Hill’s been nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance in War Dogs, and gave fun turns in the Coens’ Hail Caesar! and the surprisingly smart Sausage Party. Mara, meanwhile, co-starred in the visually lush Kubo And The Two Strings, and had a supporting role in Dev Patel’s Lion.
