Rooney Mara might star in David Fincher’s Utopia series
Rooney Mara is in talks to star in David Fincher’s adaptation of the UK series Utopia for HBO, /Film reports. (This isn’t based on any official confirmation, but on a tweet by The Wrap’s Jeff Sneider, so take it with as large a grain of salt as you like.) Mara previously worked with the director on The Social Network and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, and she’d probably love to discard her absurd Tiger Lily outfit and get back to being anguished in the dispirited lighting of a Fincher production.
Utopia—which is moving ahead even as Fincher’s other HBO show has stalled out—is based on a British series about a group of people who discover an obscure graphic novel that predicts major disasters, only to find themselves tracked by a shadowy agency. Fincher will direct every episode in the first season, which will be written entirely by Gone Girl scribe Gillian Flynn.
