Rooney Mara takes the lead in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

As predicted by all the movie blogs on the Internet ever, Rooney Mara has been confirmed to play the much-coveted part of Lisbeth Salander in the upcoming, David Fincher-directed U.S. adaptation of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, a role that was so in-demand that everyone from Kristen Stewart to Natalie Portman to Carey Mulligan had been named as a potential candidate, despite the fact that everyone already knew Rooney Mara knew would get it a long time ago. Right? Right.

Mara will now be the center of the planned trilogy opposite Daniel Craig as journalist Mikael Blomkvist, which should raise her profile considerably, to make a characteristically blasé understatement. She will next be seen in Fincher’s The Social Network, a film that’s already helped land co-star Andrew Garfield his role as Spider-Man. So truly, it’s like the St. Elmo’s Fire of our generation, or something.
