Rory Culkin gives birth to Norwegian black metal in new Lords Of Chaos trailer
Plenty of ink’s been spilled about Mayhem, the Norwegian black-metal band that famously translated its nasty, aggressive music into burnt churches and actual murder. Next month, the tragedy of Euronymous and Count Grishnack will scream onto the big screen with Lords Of Chaos, a film that, per its latest trailer, is “based on truth and lies.” Directed by Jonas Åkerlund, a veteran of the Swedish metal scene, the raucous drama stars Rory Culkin and Emory Cohen as the troubled misfits at its center.
Jack Kilmer, Valter Skarsgård, and Sky Ferreira co-star in the film, which our own Katie Rife criticized for its lack of complexity and thin character sketches. But hey, the trailer looks cool as hell, with Culkin’s corpse paint bleeding into the rustic Norwegian wilderness. Listen close and you’ll hear a snippet of Sigur Ros’ original score bleeding through all those guttural roars.
Lords Of Chaos opens on February 8, then hits On Demand on February 22.
