Rosario Dawson leaves New Mutants, Alice Braga steps in to replace her

In what will surely be a major setback in her quest to quietly take over every major superhero property, Rosario Dawson has left Josh Boone’s X-Men spinoff New Mutants. That comes from The Hollywood Reporter, which says the reasons for Dawson’s departure are “unclear,” but the most likely explanation must be that she got a better gig in a different superhero universe. She’s already in the Netflix Marvel shows, The Lego Batman Movie, and DC’s animated movies, so landing an X-Men role would’ve been a big step in securing her position as the undisputed queen of superhero adaptations, but maybe Dawson’s planning to make up for it with a big part in the Venom movie or something. Or, heaven forbid, maybe she’s just tired of doing this superhero stuff?

Either way, Dawson was supposed to play Dr. Cecilia Reyes, a forcefield-generating mutant with “more going on than she lets on,” but now that role is going to Queen Of The South’s Alice Braga. She’ll now be joining The Witch star Anya Taylor-Joy, Game Of Thrones badass Maisie Williams, and Stranger Things nice guy Charlie Heaton in the film.

New Mutants is set to be in theaters on April 13, 2018.
