Rose Byrne’s Moira MacTaggert is coming back for X-Men: Apocalypse

After missing out on the time-travel shenanigans of last year’s X-Men: Days Of Future Past, Rose Byrne’s CIA agent Moira MacTaggert is going back to the School For Gifted Youngsters. Well, she’s a human, so she won’t be attending the school, but she’ll probably visit it at some point so she can check in on the new, younger versions of Jean Grey, Storm, and Cyclops. This comes from Entertainment Weekly, which notes that MacTaggert had part of her memory erased at the end of X-Men: First Class, so Professor X and his merry mutants “are, essentially, strangers to her when she meets them.”

EW also refers to MacTaggert as a “love interest” for Professor X in that movie, and says this one will spend more time developing their relationship. Obviously, this is because a woman in a superhero movie—who isn’t Black Widow—can’t just be a capable CIA agent, she has to be somebody’s love interest. Writer Simon Kinberg also teased that the film might be able to find a spot for disco mutant Dazzler, so hopefully the movie also finds somebody for her to fall in love with. Maybe Apocalypse himself? They can bond over her need for a love interest. Anyway, we’ll discover everybody’s love interests when X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters next year.
