In addition to providing an endless bounty of Danzig jokes, Austin's Fun Fun Fun Fest is developing a reputation for hosting reunions of long-dormant, never-thought-I'd-see-them-again groups, and this year offers its most surprising resurrection yet. The surviving members of hip-hop legends Run-DMC—Joseph "Rev. Run" Simmons and Darryl "DMC" Daniels—will perform for the first time since the 2002 murder of Jam Master Jay prompted them to officially retire the Run-DMC moniker and go their separate ways. They'll make a triumphant return to the main stage during the festival's Nov. 2 through Nov. 4 run along Austin's Auditorium Shores, headlining a bill that already includes the also recently reconvened Tomahawk, plus other confirmed acts Atlas Sound, Rakim, Lagwagon, Danny Brown, The Head And The Heart, Bob Mould, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Baroness, Starfucker, Against Me!, and David Cross. In honor of Run-DMC getting back together, some proceeds from the festival will go to the JMJ Foundation For Music, which provides arts education for underprivileged kids. You can buy three-day passes beginning July 12, the same day the full lineup will be revealed.
