Run The Jewels goes for gold with new track and artwork
Following up on some music to soothe the soul, Run The Jewels has gone back to doing what it does best: rapping about unicorn horns for dicks. Okay, so that’s not quite the point of the just released “Legend Has It,” but that is the lyric that El-P made the focus of the first teaser for the track. “Legend Has It” is the third single off RTJ3, the duo’s third album that’s set to drop on January 13, 2017 Stateside and January 27 worldwide. Have a listen for yourself:
In addition to the track, Run The Jewels also shared the gleaming new artwork. The familiar pair of hands was previously seen holding onto a chain and wrapped in bandages, representing the group’s mindsets while working on the first two albums. But this Midas-touched set represents Killer Mike and El-P’s recent conclusion that we’ve been the jewels all along. That’s actually really sweet. Read for the band’s take on the hands below, then go smile at yourself in the mirror or something.
“For us, the RTJ1 hands were about ‘taking what’s yours’: your world, your life, your attitude. The RTJ2 hands were wrapped in bandages, signifying injury and healing, which for us represented the growth in ideas and tone of that album. For RTJ3 the bandages are off, the chain is gone and the hands have been transformed into gold. For us this represents the idea that there is nothing to take that exists outside of yourself. You are the jewel.”
