Running out of wine isn’t all there is to worry about in The Invitation teaser trailer
Dinner parties are a gamble under normal circumstances. With such a small group and in such confined space, whether you have a delightful evening full of sparkling conversation or are picking at your sweet potatoes in silence 30 minutes in depends heavily on who else your host invited to the party. In Karyn Kusama’s (Jennifer’s Body, Girlfight) new thriller The Invitation, this peril is taken to extremes after L.A. hipster Will (Logan Marshall-Green) and his girlfriend (Emayatzy Corinealdi) are invited to dinner at the home he used to share with his ex-wife Eden (Tammy Blanchard), whose new husband David (Michiel Huisman) is a devotee of a creepy New Age cult.
That’s all you really need to know going in, except that this writer saw The Invitation at Fantastic Fest and praised Kusama’s direction, saying she “deftly manipulates mood, loosening the dramatic tension with occasional moments of levity before snapping it back into place again.”
The Invitation will hit limited theaters and VOD on March 25.
