Russell Crowe is directing a Bill Hicks biopic
According to the Telegraph, Russell Crowe will make his feature directing debut with a biopic about late comedian Bill Hicks—because when you think "comedy," you think Russell Crowe, and then Russell Crowe stares at you like he's going to rip your throat out. As the script hails from his longtime friend Mark Staufer, Crowe has been attached to the project for years, even at one point considering starring as Hicks. That's apparently no longer in the cards, as Crowe has aged out of the part, as well as moved on to primarily prop-based comedy. Instead, the production slated to begin shooting next year has "cast wide" the net to snare the right actor who can capture Hicks' presence, and not in a Denis Leary way. There is going to be so much screaming on this set.
