Russell Crowe will play Noah for Darren Aronofsky

Bringing an end to months of prophesy, Deadline is reporting that Russell Crowe is all set to star in Darren Aronofsky’s non-religious-y take on Noah, God’s chosen party boat captain. Crowe, of course, wasn’t Aronofsky’s first choice for the part, landing the role only after Christian Bale committed to spending the next several years of his life with Terrence Malick, and no doubt after learning he couldn’t undergo his usual Method preparation due to some sort of bullshit zoning laws. But Crowe may end up being the right choice: Judging by the general Internet reaction to the film so far, Noah is likely to spark a prolonged, irritatingly circular theological debate over whether the story represents fact or fable, and nothing shuts down a debate like the look on Russell Crowe’s face.
