Russell Simmons is developing another HBO series with John Singleton

Continuing a return to the network where he made Def Comedy Jam, Russell Simmons is back at HBO again developing a nightclub drama with director John Singleton. The clumsily titled Club Life: Miami is based in (duh) Miami, and follows a reformed criminal who moves to the city and tries to reinvent himself in the South Beach club scene. Singleton is writing and will executive produce alongside Simmons.

As we recently reported, Simmons is also executive producing another HBO drama with 12 Years A Slave director Steve McQueen. That show explores a young African-American man’s entrance into New York high society, and is being written, directed, and co-executive produced by McQueen.
