Russian synchronized swimming champs bring Suspiria to the Olympics 

If you’ve seen the twins in The Shining, you know that synchronized anything is about as creepy and unsettling as moving images get. So it makes sense that the unstoppable Russian synchronized swimming pair of Natalia Ischenko and Svetlana Romashina chose Goblin’s famously creepy and unsettling score for Dario Argento’s 1977 classic Suspiria for their “free routine” at the Olympics. Here’s a clip of their routine from the qualifiers, where they honor the track with the sort of halting, hitching body movements you’d find in a J-horror flick. They currently sit at first place after the routine, and are expected to win gold. To paraphrase Renée Zellweger in Cinderella Man, they’re already the champions of our heart.
