Ryan Adams cancels U.K. and Ireland tour in wake of sexual misconduct allegations
Following The New York Times’ in-depth report on emotional abuse and sexual misconduct claims against Ryan Adams, the BBC reports the singer-songwriter has canceled his upcoming U.K. and Ireland tour.
Apparently, some fans had already requested refunds for the shows after learning of the allegations against Adams, which were detailed in NYT interviews with Mandy Moore, who was married to Adams from 2009 to 2016, his ex-fiancée Megan Butterworth, and singer Phoebe Bridgers last month. In total, seven women went on the record; some, like Bridgers, allege that Adams “promised career opportunities to young female songwriters as he simultaneously pursued sexual relationships with them.” Moore, who now heads up NBC’s tear-jerking juggernaut This Is Us, and Butterworth said Adams isolated them, professionally and socially, to control them. Adams has also been accused of engaging in graphic texting and video calls with a girl known in the report as Ava, who was only 14 when the texting and calling began in 2013.
Ticketmaster Ireland announced the tour cancellation and refund policy on Twitter early Friday morning.
Adams has categorically denied the allegations, calling them “extremely serious and outlandish accusations.” But since the report was published two weeks ago, Adams has had one of three forthcoming albums put “on hold,” as well as seen his music get increasingly limited radio play. On February 14, Pitchfork reported that the FBI has opened its own investigation in Ryan’s alleged actions.
