Ryan Adams quitting music! (For now)

Pitchfork and Stereogum are reporting that singer-songwriter-easy target Ryan Adams "is quitting music" based on a blog posted today on Adams' website. But the actual post reads more like a guy saying that he wants to take a break to sort some personal stuff out after a lengthy tour.

Granted, it's difficult at times to follow someone who writes so many run-on sentences, but Adams' sign-off doesn't sound overly final: "Maybe we will play again sometime and maybe I will work my way back into some kind of music situation but this is the time for me to step back now, to reel it in and I wish everyone peace and happiness and if music is your dream, or if just dreaming is your dream, may you find your way through the rough patch with ease and I hope you let go and it takes you all the way there." Adams says his ear problems have gotten worse, which possibly could prevent him from touring again, though it appears he's really just saying farewell to his great backing band The Cardinals.

Adams goes on about the usual Adams stuff elsewhere in the blog—he likes writing books, he doesn't like how the media treats him—but there's still no word on the supposed box set of his unreleased albums, or the reported follow-up to Cardinology, Dear Impossible. Hey Ryan: Just because you won't be making new songs for a while doesn't mean you can't release old ones.
