Ryan Gosling and Damien Chazelle dance their way into a Neil Armstrong biopic
Celebrating one small dance step for man, one giant, elaborately choreographed leap for mankind, La La Land partners Ryan Gosling and Damien Chazelle are teaming back up for a biopic about Neil Armstrong. Variety reports that Gosling and Chazelle are working together on First Man, a film adaptation of James Hansen’s 2005 book about the life and times of the first human being to walk on the moon.
Chazelle has been in talks to direct the Armstrong movie for a few years now, but this is the first official confirmation that he’ll be bringing Gosling on board to play the much-memorialized moonwalker. The film is being described as a “visceral, first-person account” of the challenges of the Apollo 11 mission, both on Armstrong—who died in 2012—and America as a whole. Meanwhile, there’s no word yet on whether Emma Stone will be taking on the role of the moon itself, winsomely coaxing Gosling’s Armstrong to come visit her with romantic songs and a lunar sea’s worth of winning charm. First Man is expected to start shooting in early 2017.
