Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone might be in Damien Chazelle’s new musical
Gangster Squad and Crazy, Stupid, Love co-stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone might be teaming up again to remind the rest of us how profoundly photogenic they are. The pair are apparently in talks to star in La La Land, a new musical from Whiplash director Damien Chazelle. The film, which Chazelle wrote before he penned his Oscar-winning take on drums, obsession, and the life-affirming power of yelling, is described as “an old fashioned musical set in contemporary Los Angeles,” and centers on the relationship between an aspiring actress and a jazz pianist. Because apparently, it’s always about the jazz with this Chazelle guy.
Originally, Whiplash star Miles Teller was rumored to lead the new film, but he’s since dropped out—possibly because his last experience with Chazelle left him unable to watch Spider-Man or a Farmers Insurance commercial without curling into a weeping, fetal ball. Meanwhile, the previously announced Emma Watson has moved on to Disney’s live-action Beauty And The Beast, leaving Chazelle scrambling to pull off the tricky-but-potentially-lucrative Emma Switch-Out and cast Stone in her place.
