Ryan Gosling in talks to star in Guillermo del Toro’s Haunted Mansion

All the way back in 2010 (look how young we all are!), we reported that Guillermo del Toro was working on a reboot of The Haunted Mansion, the Eddie Murphy-starring Disney movie that was based on a theme-park attraction. Since then, very little movement has been made on the project—which is how you know Guillermo del Toro is behind it—but now the little tram or whatever is finally picking up speed, and The Wrap is reporting that Ryan Gosling is in talks to star in the spooky ride adaptation. That’s about all we know for now, though The Wrap adds that Gosling and del Toro were seen having fun together at Disneyland recently, and the pair reportedly did ride the Haunted Mansion, so it’s practically a done deal.

Variety says the 2010 version of del Toro claimed his Haunted Mansion wouldn’t be a comedy, and that, “if you take the children, they will scream.” We’re not sure if that’s still the case, as everybody’s referring to it as a “supernatural family film,” but it could be kid-friendly and scary at the same time. Pan’s Labyrinth was kid-friendly, right?
