Ryan Murphy and Gwyneth Paltrow teaming up for your new favorite hate-watch show

Back in February of 2012, months before we would all realize that the warnings about Quetzalcoatl returning to devour the Earth were just empty threats, we reported on a movie called One Hit Wonders that Ryan Murphy was developing with Gwyneth Paltrow. The idea was to have Paltrow star alongside Reese Witherspoon and Cameron Diaz as once-popular singers who decide to form a supergroup and make a comeback, with Beyoncé and Andy Samberg also showing up to do something. However, most likely due to the rush of Quetzalcoatl-related relief that hit everyone in December of that year, we somehow forgot that One Hit Wonders was ever going to be a thing. (Which is baffling, considering that it sounds like it would’ve been the best movie ever!)

Ryan Murphy and Gwyneth Paltrow didn’t forget about it, though. They’ve simply been lying in wait like a deadly cobra, getting ready to release the deadly venom that is One Hit Wonders at precisely the right time. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the two of them are back at it, and now they’re pitching One Hit Wonders as a TV show instead of a movie. The basic premise is the same, with Paltrow starring as a woman who wrote a hit song in the ‘90s, but now Murphy has added the hilariously timely detail that she was also “the victim of a catfishing by her roommate.” In an attempt to get her life back together, she forms a group with two other singers from the ‘90s (who were also probably catfished), and eventually they all get super successful and Paltrow “becomes an inspiration to women everywhere.” So, spoiler alert.

THR also notes that Murphy is planning One Hit Wonders as an anthology series, because apparently Glee taught him that some awful storylines just aren’t following for more than one season.
