Ryan Reynolds shot some new scenes for that PG-13 version of Deadpool 2
Back in September, we reported that Fox had given Alita: Battle Angel’s original pre-delay release date of December 21 to an “untitled Deadpool movie,” with those in the know claiming it would be some kind of family-friendly, PG-13 cut of Deadpool 2 with a Princess Bride-themed framing device starring grown-up Fred Savage. That’s very specific as far as rumors go, and Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds added fuel to the fire with an Instagram photo of Savage and Deadpool that seemingly confirmed the rumor, and yet Fox still hasn’t confirmed that the PG-13 version of Deadpool 2 is happening.
However, with December 21 rapidly approaching, maybe we don’t need Fox to weigh in on this at all? Speaking with /Film, Deadpool 2 writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick confirmed that the PG-13 cut is not only happening, but that director David Leitch filmed some new scenes with Reynolds a few months ago. Reese and Wernick say that Reynolds came up with the “great framing device,” but the original idea from them was less about coming up with a PG-13 cut and more about finding an excuse to just make more Deadpool stuff. That means this new version of Deadpool 2, a movie we all saw months ago and already got an extended cut, comes from the pure joy of creativity and not from the soulless joy of corporate greed. Either way, it’s definitely not because Fox wants to squeeze more money out of Deadpool 2 before getting sold off to Disney.
Anyway, Collider claims that photography on this new cut still isn’t done, which may be why Fox is being careful not to say anything about it just yet.
