Sabrina The Teenage Witch may drop by Riverdale in the near future

It’s occurred to us that an edgy Sabrina The Teenage Witch could be right at home in Riverdale, what with its moody lighting and murder mystery—and she may be on the way. Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa tells The Wrap that Sabrina could pay Archie, Jughead, and their ilk a visit sometime during their first season. “As I say, never say never, but it’s certainly within the realm of possibility,” he explained. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that suddenly Riverdale will add Buffy The Vampire Slayer to its laundry list of teen show influences. Aguirre-Sacasa said he believes “there’s a way to introduce Sabrina in a way that’s not supernatural, but she is, she’s a witch.” Maybe she’s just a badass tarot card-reader whose style icon is Stevie Nicks rather than someone who can generate sitcom hijinks with a flick of her finger.

In truth, despite this tease, it doesn’t seem like Aguirre-Sacasa has any firm plans for what he’s going to do with Greendale-resident Sabrina, although he did indicate he has a “vision” for her that’s even “darker” than the one for he has for Archie. He also allowed for ”a version of Sabrina that exists in her own witchy bubble.” Now that’s an idea—we wouldn’t mind a spin-off programmed in a block with The CW’s Charmed reboot.
