Sacha Baron Cohen in talks to play a villain in Alice In Wonderland sequel

In addition to not playing Freddie Mercury and making a movie about lesbians, Variety reports that Sacha Baron Cohen is also in early talks to join Through The Looking Glass, the previously announced sequel to Disney’s Alice In Wonderland. Cohen will join Johnny Depp and Mia Washikowska, who are set to return as the Hatter and Alice, respectively. Meanwhile James Bobin (The Muppets) will take over directing duties from Tim Burton.

Cohen is apparently being eyed for the villain role, though given that the first film played fast and loose with the Alice mythology, it’s hard to say exactly who that villain will be. Perhaps this reimagining of Lewis Carroll’s book will focus on the Walrus and the Carpenter as would-be fascists planning a secret government takeover. (That’s what The Beatles were singing about, right?) Through The Looking Glass is set to premiere May 27, 2016.
