Safety Not Guaranteed director Colin Trevorrow selected to direct tonally similar Jurassic Park 4 

In a move almost as surprising (but not nearly as deadly) as the meteor collision that eradicated the dinosaurs, Colin Trevorrow, previously of the itty bitty indie Safety Not Guaranteed, has been chosen to direct next year’s Jurassic Park 4—a film that presumably has a Brontosaurus-sized budget. As The A.V. Club previously reported, practically nothing is known about the project aside from the fact that Steven Spielberg, who directed the first two films in the series, is still attached as a producer and that Trevorrow will direct from a script written by Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes’ Rick Jaffa. As to why Trevorrow was chosen, Deadline has reported that studio execs were convinced because he grew up as “a huge fan of the trilogy” and is “part of a generation of directors steeped in all things dinosaur”—criteria that must infuriate any 8-year-olds who were also in the running for the job.

Whatever the reason, Trevorrow better get crackin’ if he plans to meet the previously announced June 2014 release date. The Tyrannosaurus alone probably takes like a year to render.
