Saints Row developer unveils new game, Agents Of Mayhem

More than three years after Deep Silver rescued Volition from the sinking wreckage of THQ, the acclaimed developer of the Saints Row series has finally announced its next game. Called Agents Of Mayhem, the studio’s new project looks like it’ll be picking up where Saints Row IV’s over-the-top superhero action left off. Set in a futuristic interpretation of Seoul, players control a squad of three soldiers from a crime-fighting organization known as M.A.Y.H.E.M. (the Multinational AgencY For Hunting Evil Masterminds) as they attempt to thwart L.E.G.I.O.N. (the League Of Evil Gentlemen Intent On Obliterating Nations) and drive the villains from the city. You’ll assemble your trio from a wider pool of cartoonish characters, each with their own specialties and abilities, and switch between the three heroes on the fly while you hit the town and take on L.E.G.I.O.N.’s forces.

While Agents marks the start of a new series for Volition, with a unique cast and setting, Deep Silver notes that it does take place in the Saints Row universe. The game’s debut trailer, which—in keeping with the grand tradition of modern video game marketing—doesn’t include any footage of the actual game, makes that pretty obvious. M.A.Y.H.E.M. shares a logo and color scheme with the 3rd Street Saints gang and receives financial backing from Ultor, the megacorp that’s played a key role in both the Saints Row and Red Faction series. The game’s website promises more ties to Saints Row are on the way. Agents Of Mayhem is scheduled for release in 2017 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
