Sam Neill has a top-secret role in Thor: Ragnarok
Sam Neill is reuniting with Hunt For The Wilderpeople director Taika Waititi for Thor: Ragnarok. Known for playing the second-most famous fedora-wearing archaeologist in a Steven Spielberg movie, the Jurassic Park star revealed his participation in an interview with ShortList.
“I’m not really allowed to say this and I can’t tell you what it is…I did a couple of days on Thor just before I came over here,” Neill said, probably knowing exactly what he is and is not allowed to say. Euphemizing the super-binding powers of a Marvel Studios NDA, he added, “If I say anything else, Marvel’s secret agents—and they are lethal—will come and get me and probably my children, as well.”
A couple of days suggests that he signed on for a brief cameo, or did some voice work. But given the rumors of a cosmic-road-trip movie, possibly incorporating parts of the Planet Hulk storyline (and definitely featuring Karl Urban as the Asgardian Hulk-foe, Skurge), it’s hard to whittle down the characters or species that Neill could be portraying. While it would be delightful to imagine a crossover appearance of the Event Horizon, emerging at the edge of the known Marvel Comics Universe to release untold horrors, the chances of that are slim.
What we do know is that he’ll be joining the returning Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, and Mark Ruffallo, as well as newcomers Cate Blanchett, Tessa Thompson, and Jurassic Park co-star Jeff Goldblum. With a crackling bolt of lightning and flowery Asgardian dialogue, Thor: Ragnarok touches down in theaters on November 3, 2017.
