Samantha Bee considers a world in which Trump didn’t win
Full Frontal With Samantha Bee opened with a bit devastating in its joy. The host had obviously pre-taped a segment, which found her running around New York high fiving the likes of Van Jones, Ana Navarro, Larry Wilmore, and Jon Stewart, celebrating the end of the election. But that was only a dream.
She woke up and the nightmare began. Her segment tackled the pain so many are feeling through the perspectives of her staffers, one of whom was harassed on the way into work. She also examined who was really responsible for Trump’s victory: White people. “Don’t try to distance yourself from the bad apples and say, ‘It’s not my fault I didn’t vote for him, hashtag not all white people,’” she said. “Shush. If Muslims have to take responsibility for every member of their community, so do we.”
But at the end she tried to strike a vaguely optimistic note, opining on the good things America still has (Beyoncé, “Lin-Manuel Miranda rap-weeping at awards shows”) and how she’ll still be cheering on the “nasty women” until Trump outlaws women over the age of 25 from appearing on TV.
