Samuel L. Jackson says the superhero movies he’s in are better than those he’s not

Samuel L. Jackson has a well-deserved reputation as a working man’s actor. Like Michael Caine, he doesn’t seem to care whether the film he’s working on is high prestige or high paycheck, blockbuster hit or low-budget indie. It’s refreshing, this “I’m-just-here-to-do-my-job attitude” that he brings to any and all projects. And now it appears that Samuel L. Jackson doesn’t just treat all Samuel L. Jackson projects equally. According to an interview with MTV News, the omnipresent actor also believes that all non-Samuel L. Jackson films are equal—equally not as good as his movies.

Jackson says that Marvel has cracked the code to making successful comic book movies. “I think Marvel has figured out a way to make those movies accessible to the public [in a way] that DC hasn’t,” the actor claims. “I don’t know what that is. I don’t know why you can’t get [people excited about] Batman, Superman [and can’t get] people as juiced up to be a part of that.” No doubt he’s referring to the critical and commercial disappointment that is Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, easily the most widely panned comic book adaptations ever made. And while it’s possible he had in mind Marvel Studios’ run of hits since releasing Iron Man in 2008, it’s far more likely he was referring to Daredevil and Elektra, Exhibits A and B in the pantheon of how to properly make a comic book movie. It’s these pearls of wisdom that remind you to always trust the judgment of the guy who starred in The Spirit.
