Sandra Oh to star in new spy thriller from Fleabag’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge
Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Fleabag was one of 2016’s quieter TV success stories, a thoughtfully dark and funny exploration of the effects of grief on its main character’s psyche. Waller-Bridge’s schedule has quickly filled up since the show first aired on Amazon and the BBC; she’s showing up in the Han Solo movie, has a second season of Fleabag in the works, and has been developing a spy series, Killing Eve, with BBC America for the last few months. That latter project is now moving forward, with the network announcing that TV vet Sandra Oh has signed on for a starring role.
Oh will play the titular Eve, a bored, low-level security operative who dreams of the exciting life of a full-fledged badass spy. She gets her wish when she’s set on the trail of Villanelle, an international assassin with a taste for the finer things in life. The resulting chaos is being described as a mix of spy-action and comedy, with the Grey’s Anatomy alum stuck in the center of it all.
Oh most recently showed up on TV courtesy of ABC’s American Crime, joining its ensemble for its third (and final) season. She also recently appeared opposite Anne Heche in Catfight.
